Mission
Circle K International is [comprised of] college and university students who
are responsible citizens and leaders with a lifelong commitment to community
service worldwide.
Pledge
I pledge to uphold the objects of Circle K International, to foster
compassion and goodwill toward others through service and leadership, to
develop my abilities and the abilities of all people, and to dedicate myself
to the realization of mankind’s potential.
Service
The debate has continued over the years of whether Circle K is a service
organization or leadership development organization. Clearly the answer is –
it is both.
Through the years, Circle K International has recognized the significance of
emphasizing certain programs toward which club-level community service
efforts could be targeted. These programs, known as Theme and Emphasis
programs, then Service Initiatives, have also changed through the years. The
1993-94 Circle K International Board decided to make Focusing on the Future:
Children the organization's Service Initiative for an indefinite period of
time.
Focusing on the Future: Children asks Circle K members to become involved
with projects to benefit children ages 6-13. In addition, the program
enables Circle K International to collaborate with its K-family counterparts
in the largest fund-raising campaign in the history of Kiwanis International
– the Kiwanis International Worldwide Service Project.
The ASU chapter of CKI contributes to this mission by participating in the
"Reading Buddies" program, re-established in the fall of 2002. Interested
CKI members visit primary and elementary school children in the Wilson
District (Phoenix) to read with and mentor them twice each week. One of the
ASU CKI's most consistent projects, "Reading Buddies" is definitely a
favorite.

The Southwest District
The Arizona State University CKI is one of nine chartered clubs in the
Southwest District of Circle K International. Chartered May 14, 1962, the
small but mighty Southwest District spans all of Arizona and New Mexico in
addition to El Paso, Texas; Laughlin, Nevada; and Blythe and Needles,
California. The Southwest District Executive Board is elected at annual
District conventions, which are open to all paid CKI’ers! Refer back to our
Web site for more up-coming info about District events!
Currently, ASU CKI members Mandy Ward, Jennifer Thompson, and Jennifer Doles serve the District
as Governor, Secretary-Treasurer, and Bulletin Editor, respectively.
In addition, members Alyssa Kaplan, C.K. Liu, and Drew Nelson, have been
appointed to serve the District as Key to College Chair, Kiwanis Relations
Chair, and New Club Building Chair.

The Arizona State University Club
A Little Bit of History
The Arizona State University chapter of CKI was chartered May 12, 1975, by
the Kiwanis Club of Tempe and a
freshman by the name of Neil Giuliano. Just three years later, during the
1977-1978 school year, Giuliano went on to become the first CKI
International President from the ASU chapter. Giuliano has also served as
the mayor of Tempe and works for the University. Throughout the years, ASU
has been very active on the District and International levels.

The Members
Members typically find that, as in most clubs, membership of the ASU CKI is
what you make of it. It is important that members attend as many of the
Monday meetings as they can – or at least get the important info from each –
but additional projects are completely optional. Service done as a part of
the ASU CKI may be counted toward merit and other scholarships, which
oftentimes have a 40-hour service requirement. While we also encourage
taking up leadership positions, this, too, is up to you. In the past, our
club has typically averaged 50-55 paid members; we’d love to have you, too!
