October 30th

Tuesday October 30th at 4:00pm we will be meeting to discuss post-traumatic stress disorder and

research on medicines to "erase" these traumatizing memories.

 

November 16th

On Friday November 16th we will be meeting to discuss cochlear implants and their ethical implications.

Our speaker will be Dr. Michael Chorost who received a cochlear implant in 2001. To learn more about Dr. Chorost

check out his memoir"Rebuilt: How Becoming Part Computer Made Me More Human" or his article in Wired.

November 30th

On Friday November 30th we will be having breakfast with Carol Greider, a molecular biologist, from

Johns Hopkins Medical Institute. She is an expert on telomeres and telomerase which plays a role in cancer.

Nathaniel Comfort's research interests include history of biology, with a great interest in genetics, molecular biology and biomedicine.  He is currently studying the history of human and medical genetics in America during the 1950s and 1960s in order to evaluate how genetics became such an important element in today's biomedicine.
