2004 School Club Roundup Results

Another School Club Roundup contest has come and gone. Our score was a bit lower than past years, largely due to the following factors:

  1. Poor propagation throughout the week, a sad effect of the where we are in the solar cycle.
  2. Our operator's lack of availability during prime hours (that is, hours when other schools were likely to be operating).
  3. Schedules that did not permit us to use our full 24 hours (we used just short of 21).

For the first time, the club tried operating PSK31. No one in the club had ever used this mode before, and like with all contests, we just barely managed to throw the cables together and get the software up and running just hours before the start of the contest. The effort was well worth it, though. PSK31 is quite a fun mode to operate! Surely, we'll be using this in future contests.

Another first was the weather: Never before have we gone the entire contest without getting rained on! However, the entire week was a bit frigid, and the wind whipping about kept some of us chilled to the bone, rain or not.

As always, thanks to all the club members who helped with this contest. A special thanks to KC7KFF for loaning us their antenna and Patricia Munson and all the kind folks at the Student Services Building who accomodated us for the week.
