W7ASU
2001 School Club Roundup Results

Another School Club Roundup contest has come and gone. The week started on the Friday before the contest, when KC7EFP, KD7LCS, and KC7MOD erected the R7 antenna atop the Student Services Building. (Thanks KC7KFF for loaning us the antenna again!) Monday greeted us with a sunny day and a delayed start. Once we were operating, though, we had a great day. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday turned cold, rainy and windy. We did our best to keep the equipment dry as we wrapped ourselves in blankets and warmed our hands by the amp. Friday, thankfully, was sunny and warm and provided a wonderful end to an exciting week. We are extremely proud of our score and can't wait to view the published results! Furthermore, we attracted many new members to the club, some of who are already licensed.

A special thanks goes to all the club members who helped setup, teardown, operate, and organize this club activity. A special thank to KC7EFP for loaning the club his equipment for the week.

Soapbox

"It's a bad sign when we hear other SCR stations talking about KC7KFF as a threat. We'd be much happier if they were talking about W7ASU!" --KC7MOD

"So, we borrowed the enemy's antenna and now we're going to use it to beat them? I like it!" --KK7KX

"Somebody's got to beat Carl Hayden!" --KC7EFP

KC7EFP took the time to label all the wires so that any dummy could set up his equipment.

The station, some members, and a great reflection. (KD7LCS, KC7EFP, KC7MOC, and KC7RZR)

The station had to be setup and torn down every day.

KC7MOC unplugs the wire that KC7EFP labeled "DO NOT UNPLUG." Notice KC7EFP's wiring diagram, located to the left of the moniter.

"What did she just say?" KC7EFP looks bewildered with KC7MOC's operating techniques. (KC7MOC and KC7EFP).

No, we didn't apply for financial aid. Instead, we erected a beautiful antenna.

KK7KX explains his theory that "chicks dig amateur radio!" KC7MOD appears skeptical.

KD7LCS and KC7EFP and their mission: Work the school station with a signal of 5 by 3.

KC7MOC talks while KD7LCS logs.

Time to tune up the amp!

KC7MOC and KC7EFP working the early morning DX.

"Ow! My ear!" KC7EFP works a STRONG station.

KK7KX, KC7MOD, and KC7EFP take a half-hour break from the contest.

One of the cheesier pictures of the contest. (KC7EFP, KC7MOC, and KD7LCS)

Wow! What a lousy SWR!

The second best thing about the SCR contest is interacting with all the other strange club members. (The best thing is working the pileups!) (KC7EFP, KD7LCS, KC7RZR, and KC7MOC)

Pop quiz: Who, in this picture, is having fun? (KC7EFP, KC7MOC, and KD7LCS)

One of the few advantages of cold, rainy days: It is easier to view the moniter. (KD7LCS and KC7MOC)

How many hams does it take to work a contest? (KD7LCS, KC7MOC, and KC7EFP)
