Minutes of February 3, 2005
Officer’s Meeting
Present: Christina Forkner (President), Elvin Dioquino (Vice President), Angie Marshall
(Treasurer), Rebecca Woolf (Secretary), Jason Shoemaker (President-elect)
I. Review of Goals for 2004-2005
A. Attendance at National Convention
1. We had seven students from ASU in attendance
2. We would like to double
that amount for next year’s regional
convention in
B. Attendance and Participation in ASU chapter of ACDA
1. Discussion of how to enroll more students
2. Discussion about whether we should ask Choral Professors to
to hand out enrollment forms at beginning of Fall Semester
a. They might be willing to do this if we provide them
with the dates and information about upcoming events.
b. We could include a schedule of events with enrollment
information to generate interest and enthusiasm for the ACDA.
C. Clinicians for Workshops this Semester

Elvin will talk to Bart Evans.
2. Christina has emailed Harriet Harris and is waiting for her reply.
D. Fund raisers
1. Past fund raisers: Christmas Caroling, Bake Sale.
2. Future fund raiser: “The

A. Do we have a mission statement?
B. Christina will bring a copy of our constitution and recommendations from the National ACDA to next meeting.
III. Goals for 2005 and beyond
A. Networking is one of our most important goals
1. Who you know is critical in this profession.
b. Social events and retreats will strengthen relationships
among ACDA members.
2. Discussion about a “Meet and Greet” for Choral Students and Choral Professors in the fall.
a. We could co-sponsor this event with the Choral Faculty
b. We could use this time to socialize, answer questions, and tell students about our organization and upcoming events.
c. Jason will talk to Dr. Larson about this idea.
3. Discussion about the possibility of having a Fall retreat
with NAU and U of A.
4. Discussion about the fact that undergraduate students often need
encouragement and support. Social events can provide opportunities
for students to help and encourage each other.
B. “Honing Our Craft” is another important goal for our organization.
1. How can we improve our choral techniques?
a. Discussion about having a master class for future choral conductors with ASU Choral Professors and professors from the other Arizona Universities.
b. We should consider inviting local community colleges to
participate as well.
c. This might be a good event for Fall of 2005.
2. Discussion about the need to familiarize ourselves with good repertoire
a. We could sponsor a repertoire review (or sing-along) where students are invited to bring their favorite choral repertoire.
b. Students could take turns conducting their favorite pieces.
c. This could be done once each semester with a different
theme for each event i.e. high school music, junior high, etc.
d. Angie will talk to the faculty about this
activity which we have
tentatively scheduled for Friday, April 8th at 4:30
p.m.
e. Elvin will find an accompanist for this
event.
f. Theme for event: Junior High and High School Favorites
C. Future Clinicians and Workshops for Fall 2005
1. Jerry Doan might teach a workshop on vocal pedagogy for choirs.
2. Dr. Gentry, Dr. Larson or Dr. Britton might teach a workshop on
Diction for Choirs including the IPA system.
3. We could co-sponsor an out of state clinician with the MENC.
D. We need to set up a meeting with the Choral Faculty to discuss goals and get
their feedback and approval of our goals for Fall of 2005.
1. Angie will check with the choral faculty to decide on a date for this.
2. This meeting will need to be held sometime after Spring break.
E. “The

2. Flyers
a. Christina and Elvin will print up flyers by
Monday April 4th to
distribute around
campus.
b. Dr. Schildcret will announce it to the Choral Union
c. Customers must bring the flyer (one per table) to the restaurant to participate.
d. Angie will get a copy of
it to
Elvin and Christina.
(They held a similar fundraiser that was very successful)
F. We need to establish a regular date and time for our meetings so that members and faculty will know well in advance and can make plans to attend.
1. Angie will talk to the Choral Faculty and
try to come up with a
day and time that will allow at least two faculty members to attend.
