February 23, 2005 Minutes

 

Present:  Christina Forkner (President), Elvin Dioquino (Vice President), Angie Marshall

               (Treasurer), Rebecca Woolf (Secretary), Jason Shoemaker (member),

                Carino Haro (member), Greg Amerind (member), Melissa Kuproski (member)

 

I.   Motion to amend the ASU ACDA Constitution—made by Christina Forkner

            A.  This would create the position of “President Elect”.  The                                                President Elect would be selected by vote of the members and officers during                    the final semester of the outgoing President’s term. 

            B.  Motion seconded by Rebecca Woolf

            C.  Voting unanimous in the affirmative.

II. Motion to nominate Jason Shoemaker as President Elect for ASU Chapter of the

      ACDA—by  Angie Marshall

            A.  Motion seconded by Elvin Dioquino

            B.  Voting unanimous in the affirmative

III. Announcements

            A.  Discussion of highlights of ACDA National Convention (for new members)

            B.  Upcoming conventions

                        1.  National Convention

                                    a. Miami, Florida in 2007

                        2.  Western Division Convention

                                    a. Salt Lake City, March 1-4, 2006

                        3.  The Four Corners Workshop, sponsored by Arizona ACDA

                                    a. June 23-25, 2005 in Flagstaff, Arizona (NAU)

                                    b. Clinicians: James Jordan, Joan Collins, Judy Bowers

            C.  Discussion of advantages of being a member of both MENC and ACDA

            D.  Discussion about the Choral Education “meet and greet” Pizza Party

                  Friday, February 25^th, in the MET Lab

IV.  Treasurer’s Report

            A.  We have $414.75 in our account

            B.  We have $50.00 in a savings account

            C.  The Bake sale earned $164. 75

                        1.  The pies were the best sellers

                        2.  If we ask certain businesses a month in advance (Costco for instance),

                             and give them our tax ID number, most will donate a gift certificate.

                        3.  Safeway stores will give a $10.00 gift certificate on the spot

                             if given our non-profit tax ID number.

                        4.  The question was raised about whether we want to do another bake sell

                              in the near future, or wait until next year. 

V.  Future Fundraisers

            A.  “The Islands” fundraiser will be held on April 12^th or 19^th on the same night

                   as the combined choir rehearsal.

                        1.  Angie will check with Dr. Schildkret for definite date.

                        2.  Angie will set things up with “The Islands”.

            B.  Discussion of the need for another officer’s meeting for a

                  “brainstorming” session to come up with list of events for next year.

1.  Dr. Schildkret has mentioned that we need a list of events and specific purposes for our fundraisers.

VI.  Future ACDA Workshops

            A.  Elvin will call Bart Evens to  find out a date in early April (possibly April 7^th                            or 9^th) when he could do a workshop on Solfege and Warm-ups.

            B.  Christina will call Harriet Harris to find out a date in late April

                  (possibly April 23^rd) when she could present a workshop on the Alexander

                   Technique.

            C.  Christina will check with Becky Ball to see about reserving rooms for

                  the workshops.

VII. Future Meetings

            A.  Our next officer’s meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 2^nd at 3:30 p.m.

                        1.  We will brainstorm for ideas and set goals for next year.

                        2.  We need to set up a meeting with the Doctors to get their input and

                              let them know of our plans in order to get their full support.

            B.  We would like to have a meeting with the other ACDA University chapters in

                   Arizona. 

1. Christina will check with Stephanie at NAU about having an officer’s retreat meeting with the NAU chapter on Friday, March 4^th and Saturday, March 5^th.

                                    a. We would drive up to Flagstaff on Friday afternoon and have a                                                  working dinner on Friday and a working lunch on Saturday.                                               We would head back on Saturday afternoon.

                        2.  Christina will email the ASU officers to inform them about the                                       retreat.
