Officer’s Meeting

I. Previous Business
A. Report about the Four Corners Workshop
1. Held at NAU, June 23-25, 2005
2. Jason and Christina attended the event and felt it was very worthwhile.
3.
Jason will type up his notes from the workshop and post them on
the ACDA-ASU website.
B. We need pictures from past events to post on website and bulletin board.
1. Becky will give Jason photos from the Bart Evans workshop held last semester.
II. New Business
A. ACDA-ASU Website
1. Jason has updated the website and has learned to compress
pictures. This has made room for more information on the website.
2. Brainstorming and discussion about adding to the website:
a. An online newsletter with students contributing articles?
b. A message board of some kind. Jason will set this up.
c. A president’s message each month written by Jason.
d. A membership/alumni directory with interactive links.
(1) Good example of this can be found at:
http://flatirons.org (fhs alumni search)
(2) Names and email addresses would be used
only with permission.
(3) A small paragraph on each person with information
about their goals and career aspirations.
B. Discussion about first ACDA meeting: A “meet and greet” for new and
returning choral students.
1. Tentative date and time: Friday September 2, 2005 at 12:40 p.m.
Tentative location: Choral room at Gammage 2. We want to use the time to socialize, answer questions, get input and tell students about our organization and upcoming events.
a. Jason will check with choral
professors about date, time
and place.
b. Jason will change the date of our
first meeting on the website
(from Sept. 8th to Sept. 2nd)
c. Jason will arrange to announce the ACDA meeting at the first
convocation.
C. Discussion of how to make meetings more appealing to students
1. We might have a short educational presentation (20 minutes?) at each
meeting so that students feel that are getting valuable information
by attending. (Copyright laws, by Dr. Schildcret?)
D. Future Workshops
1. Brief discussion about holding future officer’s meetings the Thursday
before each scheduled workshop. We agreed this is a good idea.
2. Doctor Doan has agreed to do a workshop on vocal technique.
a. Jason will check with Dr.
Schildcret to see if the chosen date
(10-22) is available.
3. Discussion about a future workshop with George Umberson.
a. Should we choose a topic for him, give him a choice between
several topics we have chosen, or ask him to choose his favorite topic?
b. We decided to ask Dr. Umberson to choose a topic that he feels would be most valuable for students.
4. Possible workshop for Spring
a. A combined seminar with ACDA and MENC for current music education students and new music teachers/ directors.
b. This could be a conducting seminar where previously chosen
volunteers direct music and receive instruction and input
from ASU music faculty. (Like a master’s class)
III. Fundraising
A. It needs to be in place before the fall semester begins
B. The Christmas caroling fundraiser was our best money maker last year.
1. Christina will talk to Rob
(previous ACDA member) about getting
a list of past venues or businesses for
caroling.
2. Dan is willing to contact people or businesses on the list as well as other potential patrons.
3. Jason will find out if we can give out the choral office telephone number or must he give potential patrons his cell phone number. It would be nice to have the same number from year to year so that people know how to get in touch with us.
4. Jason will post information
about caroling on the ACDA website.
5. Brief discussion about when would be the best time to rehearse.
a. Should we try to do it at the end of ACDA meetings?
b. Should we rehearse on Fridays during the usual choir time?
c. Is there a better idea?
C. We will also do another bake sale, but will focus on getting more donations
from local businesses.
1. Christina will give Jason a copy
of the letter used last year with the
ACDA tax ID number.
2. We need to choose a date for bake sale.
D. Brief discussion about having a group from the Univeristy Choir give a
fundraising concert at local churches who might be interested.
1. This might be done the day after a regular choir performance.
2. Jason will talk to Dr. Gentry about this.
3. Dan will continue to work with his contacts at local churches
to find out if this is something they would be interested in.
