As we approach the end of the spring semester, the MGC Social
committee is in full force planning the largest event of the
semester – the First Annual Unity Jam. The committee was given
a great opportunity to put on an event of such magnitude.
So,
what is a Unity Jam for those who don’t know? A Unity Jam
is a one-night event that unites organizations across all
Greek councils, service and academic organizations. Money
raised at these event has provided $1,000 to such philanthropies
as the United Negro College Fund, the Hispanic Scholarship
Fund, the Sept. 11 Fund and three scholarships. The event
has grown to include organizations across the U.S. This year
we hope to bring this event to Arizona State University and
extend participation to the University of Arizona.
This
year’s Unity Jam is scheduled for May 7, 2004. Preparations
for the event are currently under way.
Proceeds
will go toward reimbursement to participating organizations
that contribute to the Unity Jam *Start Up fund. The remaining
proceeds will be given to a charity or scholarship of choice
at the discretion of participating organizations.
We
will all be part of a large social event/fundraiser that unites
people of all cultures, backgrounds and beliefs.
If
you should have any questions, please feel free to contact
our committee Chair, Aaron Almada, at Aaron.Almada@asu.edu.
We hope to gain your support in this effort.
