Major Publishing Contract Awarded to CCS Professors
Encyclopedia of Latina and Latino Popular Culture(s) in the United States


 

The Department of Chicana/o Studies has produced the Encyclopedia of Latina and Latino Popular Culture in the United States, under contract with Greenwood Publishing Group of Westport CT.

The goals of the encyclopedia are to develop a source of information covering a wide variety of topics and issues that have influenced American culture and to provide research-based information to the general public in a timely manner.

The Editorial Team consists of:

  • Dr. Cordelia Candelaria, Professor of the CCS Department and General Editor
  • Dr. Arturo Aldama, Associate Professor at Colorado University, Boulder and Specialist Editor
  • Dr. Peter J. Garcia, Assistant Professor in CCS and Specialist Editor
  • Alma Alvarez-Smith, Managing Editor and Senior Contributing Writer
  • Emmanuel Sanchez, Research Assistant.

The final encyclopedia consistsof approximately 1,200 entries, covering topics such as leaders, legends and other people important to the American culture, food, sports, literature, celebrations, visual and performing arts, film and other expressive media.
