Core Scholarly Theme(s): Child, Adolescent, Life Span Development/Race, Ethnicity, Migration

Research Interests: I use an ecological approach to inform my research, taking into account how individuals and families influence and are influenced by their surrounding ecologies. Generally, my research focuses on ethnic identity formation during adolescence and parent-adolescent relationships. With regard to ethnic identity formation, I am exploring the different components that define one's ethnic identity, as well as the factors that influence these components. My research seeks to uncover how adolescents develop their identities, the roles that significant socialization agents play in this process, and how ethnic identity is associated with important variables (e.g., family relationships, academic success, psychological functioning). I am also interested in understanding parent-adolescent relationships across cultures, with specific interests in the differences and similarities among Latino families living in the U.S. and Latino families residing in Latin American countries.

Undergraduate and graduate degrees in Family and Human Development and in Sociology continue to be offered!
