Education: Ph.D., University of Georgia
Core Scholarly Theme(s): Child, Adolescent,
Life Span Development/ Dynamical Assessment
Research Interests: Research interests
include gender development in children, development of gender
identity and stereotypes in children, gender and peer relationships,
and the role of gender and sex segregation in school adjustment
and functioning. Interests also include assessment of peer
networks and using computer simulations to understand children's
peer networks. Teaching activities emphasize gender development,
theories of child development, and human development.
Dr. Martin's current research project is a federally funded
study of children's adjustment to school: The Understanding
School Success (USS) project, of which she is a principal
investigator. For more information on the USS project, go
to the USS webpage at http://www.asu.edu/uss.
Dr. Martin is also working with a team of researchers on
a federally funded study involving the development and assessment
of computer simulations of children's play patterns. Data
have been collected about preschool children's play partners
and their social and behavioral characteristics, and these
data are being used to compare with computer simulated models
of children's play.
