Jenny Trinitapoli (Assistant Professor)

My research agenda is structured around examining the role of religion in shaping demographic processes and outcomes in the non-Western world. My main research project involves the relationship between religion and HIV risk in sub-Saharan Africa, which includes examining how individual religiosity and broader religious context shapes sexual behavior as well as marriage and family formation in Malawi. I also have an interest in the extra-religious functions of religious congregations; to this end I am working on a project that looks at the congregational provision of health-related social services in both the United States and sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to pursuing substantive interests in the areas of religion, health, and HIV/AIDS, my work involves integrating survey and ethnographic methods in both data collection and data analysis strategies.
