My current research projects address two broad areas:  (1) achievement and inequality in education, and (2) the implications of economic globalization for workers.  My recent and ongoing work has investigated sources of the black-white and Latino-white achievement gaps in higher education and the role of social class at elite, private universities.  Other publications have examined recent trends in unionization in less developed countries and sources of union decline following the market transition in Eastern European ex-communist countries.
