My primary research interests are
generally in the area of health. Within that area, I am interested in
the social and social psychological structures
that contribute to the health disparities that plague African American
and Hispanic women. Specifically, I am looking at obesity and how it relates
to body image and weight management. Working with Dr. Mary Benin and Dr.
Steven Haas, my current research is among adolescents and their transition
to adulthood. I am interested in how racial differences in body image and
weight management behavior in adolescence influence obesity and overweight
in young adulthood. I primarily analyze large national datasets and use
quantitative analytic techniques. I will be finishing my Master’s
thesis in May of 2007 and beginning the Ph.D. program in the fall.
