I received my Ph.D. in geography at the University of Southern California (Phi Kappa Phi) in 1997, and I am currently an associate professor in the Asian Pacific American Studies Program and School of Geographical Sciences. My research foci are urban ethnicity and ethnic geography, immigration and integration, financial sector and minority community development. I coined the term “ethnoburb” to describe a new form of contemporary suburban Asian settlements, and continue my empirical studies in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay area, Metropolitan Phoenix, and Vancouver, Canada. My scholarly articles have appeared in Annals of Association of American Geographers; Environment and Planning A; Urban Studies; Urban Geography; Social Science Research; and Journal of Asian American Studies. I am the recipient of the 1999 Nystrom Dissertation Award by the Association of American Geographers, and the vice chair of Asian Advisory Committee of the U.S. Census Bureau’s Race and Ethnic Advisory Committees (REACs) since 2004.
