My current research continues to be focused on understanding how border dynamics shape socio-territorial processes, especially in the US-Mexico borderlands. Through my work I want to identify and understand relationships between environmental and human factors that underlie quality of life, social justice and sustainability in urban settlements. Specifically, I am interested in understanding the determinants of cross-border cooperation and governance for their potential for integrated spatial planning in border settings. I am also interested in the nexus between metropolization, residential segregation and human health issues affecting Mexican and Mexican-American populations in the Southwest region.
