My research seeks to disentangle complex, bi-directional pathways through which social context shapes child and adolescent wellbeing. I use social network analysis to understand (1) how networks form, (2) how influence operates in networks, and (3) how network position affects developmental outcomes. My main interests focus on how these network processes affect child and adolescent development across several domains including mental and physical health, and psychosocial development. I have used stochastic actor-based modeling (also known as SIENA) to examine co-evolution of networks and (1) gender-typed activities in early childhood and (2) depression in adolescence. My ongoing work investigates links between hormone-levels (i.e., cortisol and testosterone) and friendship networks.
