My work focuses generally in the area of the family. Within that area, I am interested in how family factors, especially family structure, influence adolescent educational attainments and other achievements. I also examine the role of the other contexts of the adolescent environment, including neighborhoods, schools and peers on adolescent success. I am currently collaborating with some of our health-oriented faculty to examine family and peer influences on adolescent obesity. A second family-oriented interest is in the roles that stage in the family life cycle and division of household labor play in the marital success and failure. I primarily analyze large national datasets and use quantitative analytic techniques including Structural Equation and Multi-Level Modeling.
