Social Change and Family Formation in Nepal

This research examines the links between social change, social context, and family formation. The research uses as its foundation a survey that has collected retrospective life histories, prospective vital events registries, and neighborhood history calendars from 5271 individuals in 171 neighborhoods in the Chitwan Valley of Nepal. Analyses using this data have already shown consistent relationships between neighborhood context and a many family behaviors, including marriage, contraception, and fertility. Other components of this research have collected data on land use, land distribution, agriculture, and environmental diversity.
