Some degrees prepare you for a vocation. For example, a secondary
education major in the College of Education prepares one to become
a high school teacher, and an accounting major in the College of
Business prepares one to become an accountant. SSFD is in the College
of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Other departments in Liberal Arts
include English, History, Psychology, and Sociology. With few exceptions,
a degree from Liberal Arts does not prepare one specifically for
a vocation. Rather, it provides a general education background
that many companies prefer or prepares a student for graduate work
(which does tend to be more vocationally oriented).
Students with a degree from our programs have been hired in the
following jobs: Center manager for Planned Parenthood, counselor
in a children's hospital, child life specialist, director of a
childcare center, preschool teacher, administrator for Crisis Nursery,
parent interventionist, juvenile probation officer, child protective
services worker, group home worker, EMPACT counselor, police officer,
and activities director in a nursing home. Additionally, some of
our students have been extremely successful in business and others
have become entrepreneurs.
