How to Apply
Application for admission into the CARE program must be
completed for admission to the Spring Semester. There
are really two parts to participation in CARE:
- Apply for entry to the CARE program and to take the preparation
course.
- During the preparation course apply for approval to conduct
a community based research project (including approval by ASU’s
Institutional Review Board) and perhaps funding to support your
work on the project.
Part 1
Apply to take the Preparation Course (FAS/SOC
497/498 – Leadership, Value Conflicts, and Collaboration
in Public Life)
Write a two page (500 word) essay addressing the following questions:
- Why are you interested in taking the preparation course and
in the possibility of joining the CARE program?
- At this preliminary stage, what kind of community based research
project might you like to do or could you imagine yourself doing
if you were accepted into the CARE program?
- What leadership abilities do you think are most important
for you to develop at this point in your college career?
- How do you think your participation in the CARE program could
facilitate your leadership development?
To have the best chance of being admitted, please submit
your application essay as soon as possible via email
to Dr. Larry Dumka at larry.dumka@asu.edu.
Depending on program capacity, applications will be received
until November 15, 2008 for admission to the preparation
course in Spring 2009. If accepted, you will
be given the appropriate scheduled line number that permits you
to register for the course.
