Francke & Merickel, 1981: 375 (worker, male), figs. 4, 7, 8, 11, 13, 14, 16. Lubbock, Farm Road 2641 at Blackwater Draw, 900 m, Lubbock County, Texas (J.V. Moody on 2 July, 1973). Taber, 1988: 244 (queen).
Etymology: The specific epithet, texanus, was not discussed by Francke & Merickel, but the name was undoubtedly derived from their collecting the species in 13 counties in western Texas.
