Ephebomyrmex odoratus Kusnezov; Kusnezov, 1960; 354. First combination in Ephebomyrmex.
Pogonomyrmex odoratus Kusnezov; Snelling & Hunt, 1976: 75. Revived combination in Pogonomyrmex.
Etymology: Kusnezov did not give information regarding etymology in his description of this species. However, in a later paper (Kusnezov, 1960: 355), Kusnezov indicated that the name was derived from the odor emitted by the species.
