Species: Pogonomyrmex sp. RAJ-alti (unpublished mansucript name; name not to be used)
Holotype worker: ARGENTINA, Jujuy Province: Departamento de Yavi, 0.5 km W La Quiaca, 22º6, 4'S 65º 36.8'W, 11,430' (3465 m), 21 January 2010 (R.A. Johnson #4344) [MACN]. Paratypes, same data as holotype: FML (6w), MACN (12w), LACM (6w), MCZ (6w), RAJC (13w, 1q, 1m), UCDC (3w), USNM (6w). Additional paratype series from the same locality and date - RAJ #4343: MACN (6w), RAJC (6w); RAJ #4345: MACN (12w), RAJC (9w); RAJ #4346: MACN (3w), RAJC (6w).
Etymology: The specific epithet, altiplanensis (from Latin, for the altiplano of Argentina and Bolivia), is derived from this species occurring in the altiplano habitats of the central Andes.
