Species: Pogonomyrmex sp. RAJ-propinqua (unpublished mansucript name; name not to be used)
Holotype worker [MACN: CASENT0922160]: ARGENTINA, Mendoza: Departamento Santa Rosa, Rt 7 at 13.9 km E La Dormida, 33º 23.8'S 67º 46.8'W, 1760' (535 m), 11 April 2015 (R.A. Johnson #5463). Paratypes, same data as holotype: FML (6w), LACM (9w), MACN (12w), MCZ (9w ), RAJC (33w ), UCDC (3w), USNM (9w).
Etymology: The specific epithet, propinqua (from Latin, propinquus = near, neighboring, close), is derived from this species having morphology and coloration that is very similar to that of P. carbonarius.
