Thank you for accessing our web site. We are proud of our Slavic Languages and Literatures Section, which is part of the greater ASU School of International Letters and Cultures. We are proud of our section's offerings, its faculty, and especially its students, and we are glad to provide you with the answers to frequently asked questions about our program.

At present, our section offers a full, four-year Bachelor's Degree in the Russian Language (B.A. in Russian) as well as a Russian language minor that may be included into the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary science (B.I.S.) degree requirements. The Slavic section is pleased to participate as members of the University-wide Russian and East European Studies Consortium (REESC) to offer a certificate of competence in Russian and East European Studies.

In addition to the Russian language, a student in our section is encouraged to study other Slavic languages like Bosnian-Serbian-Croatian, Macedonian, or Polish, or non-Slavic languages like Albanian, Armenian, and Tatar. These lesser-taught languages are available at substanstial reductions of tuition through our associated "Critical Language Institute"(CLI). A series of grants from outside sources cover much of the cost of running these language programs, each of which includes the opportunity for study abroad.

We are a relatively small academic section in a big place, so that students are never closed out of classes, and faculty members know who you are and want to see you do well. Our placement policy does not include exams, merely personal conferences after which you start in the program where it is agreed you should. We want you to succeed and to have an enjoyable learning experience with us here while on the path to success.
