Peter Suwarno is an associate professor of Indonesian languages and literatures and associate director of the School of International Letters and Cultures (SILC), ASU. He completed his master’s degree in linguistics in 1988 and his PhD in Interpersonal Communication from Ohio University in 1992. He has been teaching Indonesian language since he was a TA at Ohio University in 1986. He also teaches Southeast Asian Literatures and Linguistics. He published the “Dictionary of Javanese Proverbs and Idiomatic Expression” (1999). He received a grant from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Department of States (2003-2006) on Exchange programs in Conflict Resolution between ASU and Indonesian Religious Universities. This grant has enhanced his research interest in Indonesian inter-religious dialogues as well as enabled him to give presentation in conferences and published papers on religious conflict resolution in Indonesia.
