Quino E. Martinez Scholarship

Description

The School of International Letters and Cultures annually selects a student to receive this scholarship established in honor of Professor Quino E. Martinez. Professor Martinez taught Spanish and Portuguese at ASU for 31 years, from 1957-1988. He also was one of the "original" television instructors on KAET where he hosted a Spanish language course. The purpose of the scholarship is to support an outstanding student of Spanish and/or Portuguese who meets the criteria outlined below. 

Minimum Criteria

  • Must be an undergraduate student with a junior or senior class standing (having earned 56 or more credit hours) at the time the award is disbursed.
  • Must have a declared major in Spanish and/or course work in Portuguese. 
  • Minimum overall cumulative grade point average required is 3.00.
  • Must be enrolled full-time (minimum 12 hours) and maintain full-time enrollment at ASU Tempe campus for two consecutive semesters; beginning with the semester the award is first disbursed.

Application Process

Students must submit the following:

  1. A completed application (PDF | Word).
  2. One copy of student transcripts, including (unofficial copy of transcript or DARS reports is acceptable).
  3. A one-page essay describing: 
    a) involvement in community service
    b) student involvement and activities
    c) educational and career goals
    d) specific area of interest in languages
    e) personal background.

The application and brief statement must be typed.
