
Mission
Develop best practices for language and literacy assessment and intervention of bilingual and Spanish-speaking children with typical and atypical language skills
- Language development. Develop language interventions that will encourage Spanish-speaking children in the US to continue to develop and maintain their native language while they acquire the second language in the context of school, preschool, and home environments.
- Literacy development in ENGLISH and SPANISH. Develop literacy practices that help preschool and school-age bilingual children become biliterate. Identify predictors of Spanish and English reading skills in low-income Spanish-speaking children.

Identifiers of language disorders in bilingual children. Develop measures that are efficient and accurate in the identification of Spanish-speaking and bilingual children with language disorders.

Differentiate language difference from language disorders. Understand the clinical manifestations of language impairment in bilingual children; establish clinical markers that differentiate Latino children with typical and atypical language skills with a focus in Spanish-English.
