Currently, we are investigating the relationship between cognitive and discourse processing across the adult lifespan. Each participant completes several cognitive test batteries that assess memory, attention, and general cognitive functioning. Participants also complete several discourse activities including recount personal events, explaining different procedures, tell stories, and describing picture scenes. Volunteer activities associated with this research project include:
-
•Learning how to transcribe and c-unit segment language samples using CLAN.
-
•Learning how to complete a variety of language analysis procedures; these may include measures of informativeness, error production, cohesion, coherence, syntactic complexity, and accuracy and completeness in conveying stories and procedures.
-
•Participating in data collection; opportunities to participate and observe cognitive and language testing.
