Computer and IT
SHESC maintains a graduate student computer lab with a wide variety of computer-based tools for anthropological research including Geographic Information System, statistical analysis, multimedia and imaging, data management, and document production software. IT resources are available in many additional SHESC locations, as well as throughout the ASU Tempe campus, where wireless capabilities have also become widely available.

Multimedia
Digital and traditional photography is supported through access to dital and film cameras, flatbed scanners and a darkroom development lab. Audio equiomebt is available for ethnographic data collection and analysis. The School partners with the Partnership in Research and Spatial Modeling (PRISM) to produce innovative research in three-dimensional modeling of artifacts and dimensions of human skeletal components.

Environmental and Osteological
To support the study of past and present environmental conditions, the SHESC supports an in-house palynology laboratory and training by faculty for research projects.
The physical anthropology program maintains well-equipped dental, DNA, osteology, and comparative anatomy laboratories, as well as an x-ray facility. The Department has a full-time research specialist for physical anthropology who oversees the diverse operations of the laboratories and preparation of the collections and who also assists students with projects involving these resources.

Materials Analysis
In-house artifact materials analysis is facilitated by the SHESC wet laboratory, a full size kiln, scales and laboratory processing space. SHESC maintains a partnership with the ASU Ion Beam Laboratory for advanced instrumental materials analyses including Proton Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) and Rutherford backscattering (RBS) capabilities.

Field Equipment
SHESC provides access to equipment for student and faculty fieldwork. Equipment includes trucks and suburbans for rugged terrain and fieldschool transportation, GPS, electronic and traditional mapping tools, various camping gear for large crew use, and a wide range of excavation equipment.
