Tenured Appointment

Arizona State University seeks an accomplished, innovative scholar to lead and direct the Jewish Studies Program on the Tempe Campus.  The successful applicant will be designated the Irving and Miriam Lowe Professor.  The Jewish Studies program offers a vibrant interdisciplinary curriculum, supports excellent scholarship and has developed extensive community oriented programming. Arizona State University is committed to program and research growth in Jewish Studies, a program enhanced by solid collections located in the University Libraries.

The successful candidate would have an earned doctorate, and achieved national and international recognition in his/her area of specialization.  As a professor his/her research and teaching would be in any aspect of modern Jewish studies. The responsibilities of the Director include: directing the Jewish Studies Program; managing the budget; fund-raising and grantsmanship; collaborating with faculty in the development of the program on campus, in the community, and nationally; and curriculum and library development.  The successful candidate will hold an appointment in an appropriate academic unit.  The position is a fiscal year appointment and reports to the Vice President and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences through the Dean of the Division of Humanities.  

Required:  An earned doctorate in a related area, national and international reputation in  Jewish Studies, qualifications commensurate with the rank of full professor or eligible for promotion to full professor in the next year, evidence of commitment to fund-raising locally and nationally, teaching excellence, knowledge of at least one Jewish language, evidence of teaching courses relevant to modern Jewish studies, evidence of interest in working with students, commitment to community service, and proven record of programming.
 
Desired: demonstrated successful administrative experience and a record of fund-raising and grantsmanship.
