Research Interests
Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, and indigenous religions in Southeast Asia,  Religion and Culture, Modernity and Politics, Ritual, Sacred Geography, and the  Anthropology of Religion.
Biography
(Ph.D., University of Illinois) Dr. Woodward is associate professor of religions in Southeast Asia. He has taught at Illinois Wesleyan University and Bowdoin College, and in 2007 was Visiting Proessor of Religious Studies at the Center for Religious and Cross-cultural Studies at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He has received grants from Fulbright–Hays, the Social Science Research Council, the US Department of State, and from the Indonesian Ministry of Religion. He has conducted extensive ethnographic and historical research in Indonesia, Burma and Singapore.
