A member of the department since 1973, he
received his B.A. from Willamette University, his M.A. from the University of
Hawaii, and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Professor Youngblood is
the author of Marcos Against the Church: Economic Development and Political
Repression in the Philippines (1990) and co-editor of Patterns of Power
and Politics in the Philippines: Implications for Development (1994). He
has also published articles in journals such as Asian Survey, Asian Affairs:
An American Review, Contemporary Southeast Asia, Comparative Political Studies,
AustralianOutlook, Bulletin of Concerned Asian Scholars, Pilipinas, and the
Journal of Asian and African Studies. His current teaching and
research interests are focused on church-state relations in the Philippines,
human rights in Southeast Asia, and Asian political economy.
