Paul Lewis joined the ASU faculty in 2005. His research and teaching focus on urban politics and public policymaking in the United States. His second book, Custodians of Place: Governing the Growth and Development of Cities (coauthored with Max Neiman) will be published by Georgetown University Press in 2009. Earlier, Lewis authored Shaping Suburbia: How Political Institutions Organize Urban Development, which was named an Outstanding Academic Book by Choice. He has also published his work in a variety of political science, policy, and urban affairs journals. His is currently a co-principal investigator of a multidisciplinary project on “Local Policing in the Context of Immigration,” which has received funding from the National Science Foundation. Lewis has served on the editorial boards of State and Local Government Review (2004-06) and Journal of Urban Affairs (2007-present). From 1996-2005, he worked at the Public Policy Institute of California, first as a research fellow and then as a program director. He holds a B.A. from Indiana University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University.
