Miki Caul Kittilson joined the department in Fall 2004. She earned her BA from Arizona State University, MA and PhD from University of California, Irvine. Her research focuses on two areas of comparative politics: women and politics and political behavior. Both foci involve questions concerning equality in the political process in established democracies. She was recently awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to investigate the impact of women in office on policy outcomes. In another current project she examines the impact of “virtual” social activity for political participation, social trust, and democratic norms. In Challenging Parties, Changing Parliaments: Women and Elected Office in Contemporary Western Europe (Ohio State University Press, Parliaments and Legislatures Series, 2006), she argues that political parties have been instrumental in increasing women’s presence in parliaments since the 1970s. She has also published articles in journals such as the Journal of Politics, International Organization, Comparative Political Studies, Party Politics and Politics & Gender.
