Texts: This course is an introduction to some of the central topics in the philosophy of science: the nature of scientific laws, the testing of theories, scientific explanation, the reduction of one scientific theory to another, the historical development of scientific knowledge; scientific realism and anti-realism; probability and induction. Course work and grading: Two tests, occasional quizzes or homework assignments, and a comprehensive final exam. The final exam will have two components, classroom and take-home. |
