Ruth Wisse, Harvard University

Ruth Wisse is the Martin Peretz Professor of Yiddish Literature and Professor of Comparative Literature at Harvard University. She introduced courses in Yiddish literature and helped to found the Jewish Studies Department at McGill University in Montreal, where she grew up.

She has published several books including The Modern Jewish Cannon: A Journey Through Language and Culture, I.L. Peretz and the Making of Modern Jewish Culture, and The Schlemiel as Modern Hero.
