In the past five years I have experimented with a different approach in painting. This has created a more spontaneous and abstract visual quality to the work. The human form is still very central to my work, but I feel that the images are more interesting and better integrated within the picture plane.

Coming up with an idea in painting is very challenging and sometimes very time consuming. One aspect of this new approach is to just paint, pushing and pulling. After minutes, hours, sometimes days of manipulating the paint, an idea sparks in my mind. At this point of the development, after the idea is imagined and if I feel good about it, a different attitude and approach takes place. Now my interest is to create the piece in an expressive and spontaneous manner. Depending on the size of the piece, the final touches may take a few minutes or hours. Also, the use of non-traditional tools such as spatulas, dry-wall knifes, ect., creates a unique textural and tactile surface quality.
