Study Scholarly Publishing at Arizona State University
The Scholarly Publishing Certificate Program offers graduate students in any discipline the opportunity to receive training in publishing studies. The program prepares students to enter scholarly publishing fields—university presses, higher education publishing, reference publishing—or to engage successfully in publishing activities they will encounter as academic professionals, such as journal publishing and documentary editing.
The director works with each student individually to organize a job search and plan a career. Students are also assisted in investigating career opportunities through class projects and internship planning.
Graduates of the program have recently accepted positions at the Getty Museum, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Oxford University Press, MIT Press, the American Political Science Association, the Adams Papers, and the Harvard Business School Press.

The Director of Scholarly Publishing assists students in finding suitable internships with university presses, commercial scholarly publishers, college textbook publishers, scholarly journals, or other institutions. The internship may be completed during the school year through an on-campus placement or during the summer.
On-campus internships are available in the Journals Office of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects Administration, the Bilingual Press, and other publishing programs. Summer internships are available nationwide. In recent years, students have interned at the University of Arizona Press, the University of California Press, Harvard University Press, W. W. Norton & Company, the Poisoned Pen Press, the University of Oklahoma Press, and Yale University Press.
Graduate research and teaching assistantships are available through the degree-granting departments and administrative offices. Certificate students are eligible for assistantships and loans. These assistantships include a waiver of out-of-state tuition.
