ASU SCG Sponsors Talk by Phung Tuu Boi | September 18, 2007
"This past spring ASU's School of Global Studies sponsored a visit and talk by Phung Tuu Boi, a Vietnamese scientist working on Agent Orange clean-up. The talk on April 5, 2007 was titled "Agent Orange and the Enviroment: From Research to Remediation in Vietnam." SGS Assistant Professor Pam McElwee helped sponsor Boi's month-long visit to the US to attend the Association for Asian Studies annual meeting and to talk to a number of universities including ASU, Sarah Lawrence, Columbia, Cornell, Colorado State and the University of North Carolina. McElwee travelled with Boi to several of his talks, and has been working with Mr. Boi since 2002 on environmental issues in Vietnam.
Today's New York Times website has a story and video featuring Mr. Boi's work. The reporter heard about his work while he was on his US trip this past spring. I hope that this additional nation-wide attention will help to continue to raise awareness of the ongoing Agent Orange and other environmental issues in Vietnam. Pam McElwee
