The CMC Discussion Webboard

Just want to go to the darn board and not read all this long-winded stuff? Click here.

During the past year, a number of instructors involved with the CMC program have expressed a strong interest in having an on-line space to talk about CMC-related issues. We created a WebBoard forum to answer this need. (For those of you not familiar with WebBoard, it's a threaded discussion program that's similar to Blackboard or Collabra.)

Right now, there are three main topics on the board:

  1. Help! - designed to provide a space for people to, well, ask for help, whether it be about a troubling day in class, an on-going issue, switching rooms, or whatever.
  2. Ideas - designed to be a space for posting particularly successful ideas, lesson plans, assignments, etc., or for throwing out things you've been thinking about and asking for response.
  3. Theory - designed to provide a space for engaging the theoretical side of things.

If you'd like to go right to the WebBoard forum, click here. If you've never had experience with Webboard, you might want to read on.

WebBoard is pretty easy to figure out. When you first go to the site, you will have to log in. If it's your first time using WebBoard, log in as a "New User" (there's a button). You'll be asked to enter your name, e-mail, and some other information. The only necessary information is indicated by a red dot. Remember the name and password you choose!

If you've already used WebBoard (or if you've completed the paragraph above and logged in as a New User), you just need to enter your name and password at the log-in screen.

Once you log in, you'll see those three topics mentioned above on the left side of your screen. They should have little "plus" signs next to them. That means they have messages under them. If you click on the plus signs, you'll be able to see the messages. To read a message, click on it. It will appear on the right side of your screen.

To reply to a message, click the link at the top of the right side of your screen that says "reply." Then, you can type your message and click "post."

It's a good idea to click "refresh" at the top left side of your screen from time to time if you're logged in for awhile. That will show you any new messages that have come up.
