SSH solves the most important security problem on the internet, securing userids and passwords. This is a more secure method of handling ID and PWD information. SSH Secure Shell is availible via a free download from: http://www.asu.edu/it/fyi/comm/sw/serveraccess/ssh.html#download When you start the SSH Secure File Transfer Client you will see a screen like this:
If you press the Quick Connect button you see:
Type in "general.asu.edu" for the Host Name and your ASURITE ID for the User Name and press connect. You will be prompted to enter your password. Now you see an Windows Explorer-like interface (below) that allows you to drag and drop to and from another Windows Explorer window.
You may also use the context menu to download via the right-mouse button. If you are moving webpages, remember that all web pages and images need to go in your www folder (or subfolders within). If you are trying to reach a department web space you may need to go to Operation > Go to Folder and enter the full AFS path. ©Bruce Matsunaga |
