You can eliminate some of these junk emails by enabling Outlook 2003's junk mail filter. There are limits to the Outlook filter, the most important is that it will only run when Outlook is open on the computer that you set up the filter on. Also, you should check the Office update site often for Outlook filter updates: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/ **Note if you are setting this up on a computer off-campus without the Checkpoint VPN, follow these additional directions first. Step One: Enable Cached Exchange Mode In Outlook go to Tools > Email Accounts. The email accounts wizard should select "View or change existing e-mail accounts" by default, click Next. You should see a dialogue box similar to the one below
Click Change. Check Use Cached Exchange Mode, click Next, then Finish.
As prompted, close Outlook and open it again. It may be several minutes before your inbox will appear (depending on the amount of email in your mailbox). By default, Outlook turns on junk mail filtering at the low setting. This catches most obvious junk email. To adjust your settings go to Actions > Junk E-mail > Junk E-mail Options. Here you can change your settings to high if too much junk mail is getting through. You still will need to check to make sure legitimate email isn't getting caught in the junk filter. You can check what Outlook catches by going to the new Junk E-Mail folder in your mailbox. If you find legitimate email in the junk folder, you can highlight the message and select the Not Junk button in the tool bar at the top. Similarly, if you find a repeated junk email sender, you can right-click on the message and add the sender to your blocked sender list (right-click > Junk E-mail > Add sender to junk sender list. Enjoy!
