Mark joined the English department at ASU in the fall semester of 2005. He teaches LIN500—Research methods, LIN521—Methods of teaching English as a second language, LIN524—Curriculum design and materials development, LIN523-Language testing and assessment, and ENG107—First-year composition for ESL students. His previous teaching experience includes two years as a faculty member in the English Department at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez, where he taught a simiar combination of courses to those he teaches at ASU. Before moving to Puerto Rico, Mark completed a Ph.D. degree in Second Language Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto (OISE/UT). While working on that degree, he taught ESL writing courses for engineering students and a TESL course for K-12 teacher candidates. Before beginning this work in Toronto, Mark spent several years teaching English in a variety of contexts in Japan and Canada.
Mark’s research interests include various issues related to curriculum, teaching, and learning in second language education. His current research focuses on practical and theoretical aspects of learning transfer in second language education. Mark's recent work in this area has been published in the TESOL Quarterly, the ELT Journal, and the International Review of Applied Linguistics.
