After a decade of teaching English Linguistics, ESL, EFL, and ESP
at the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, Macedonia,
in 1998 I transferred to Arizona State University. Since joining the
ASU English Department my focus has shifted to Rhetoric and Composition
so I have concentrated on teaching writing courses. In addition, I
have been teaching Macedonian at the ASU Critical Languages Institute
-- a nationally recognized institute for teaching less commonly taught
languages. My research and teaching interests span from Rhetoric/Composition
to Linguistics and include composition theory, second language learning
(especially writing), interlanguage pragmatics, and cross-cultural
discourse.
My academic credo is that, fundamentally, university education
should enable students for effective self-education. Teaching is not
merely a transfer of knowledge. Rather, it is an ongoing mission to
empower students in their intellectual discoveries and to encourage
them to pursue academic and professional growth. As a university instructor,
I have had the privilege of working with gifted, dynamic students from
whom I have learned as much as they have learned from me.
