angela christieHere I am, taking pause after a long day of research in Columbia University’s Rare Book and Manuscript Library.  This year, I have been fortunate to receive a Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History Fellowship in NYC, supporting my dissertation research focusing on writings by and about Cherokee women, which has also taken me this past summer to Oklahoma and North Carolina.  I have been teaching writing for twelve years, arriving here at ASU in 2004.  Coaching others to write and research effectively is among my passions, along with my strong interests in anthropology, history, creative writing, art, music, and languages.  I lived in France with my beloved husband Laurent, and there I discovered that being a “foreigner” has its challenges, and rewards.  l love Europe and dream of the Provençe often, also hoping to travel to Latin America in the not-so-distant future.  As for writers, I admire many, and among them securely rest Toni Morrison, Annie Dillard, Margaret Atwood, and Wilma Mankiller.  Oh, and this summer, I finally got around to watching Il Postino (1994).  I think that I shall never be the same.
