Katherine Heenan earned her Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in 1998. She has taught in community colleges, adult literacy programs, and at university level. From 1990-1995, she was Writing Center Director at the University of Connecticut, where she trained and supervised graduate and undergraduate tutors and developed an upper-division tutor-training seminar which explored the theories and practices of tutoring writing. Since joining ASU, she has taught ENG102 and ENG215, Strategies of Academic Writing. Along with Timothy Ray, she developed a course entitled "Writing in Cyberspace" for the Writing Certificate Program and was most recently appointed to serve as the Director of Undergraduate Writing Programs Curriculum. Her most recent projects include a study of the rhetoric of 19th century African-American women's public discourse and a co-authored textbook tentatively entitled A Rhetoric of Culture: Making (US)America for an Other Century.
