ASU English > Past Homecoming Events > Thanks and Comments

Dear Homecoming Committee:

You did it again—put together a dynamite Homecoming event that far exceeded our own expectations! Not only did we have more activities, but more people participated in and attended the activities: Sherman Alexi’s kickoff lecture before an audience of some 500 from inside and beyond ASU; the elegant vernissage with artists talking about their work; the Western States Conference; the lively night in New Orleans with Kid Merv, the Randel  and Susan McCraw Helms Homecoming Writing Contest; the raffle baskets; the silent auction; the literary contest that brought us Brick and Maggie from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, the Cat in the Hat, and Little Ms. Muffet and her naughty spider; and finally the appearance of Gertrude Stein and the Reverend Doctor Mordecai Jones. All of these activities took this three-year-old celebration to another level of enjoyment and creativity. To Jim Blasingame & Cajsa Baldini, I owe my eternal gratitude for leading this fine and amazingly smooth effort. To other members of the Homecoming team and of the department who bought raffle tickets, monitored the arts and archives gallery, displayed art in the gallery, sent us good wishes, bought silent auction items, solicited silent auction items, judged the literary contest, created raffle baskets, read the 100 entries in the Writing Contest, attended events, brought and invited others to the events, booked the venues, brought us Kid Merv, created publicity for all of the events, and offered anything else that went into making this Come Home to English 2007 event the success that it was—THANK YOU!!.

It takes a TEAM!

Congrats--to you, too, Neal, for shepherding everyone there and through.  It was a lot of fun, and very glad it was so successful. -Cynthia H.

I want to thank you for the best Homecoming I have attended.  It was kind of you to extend the hospitality to Alan and me, and we love coming to campus for this event.  I do believe that the entire University had the best turn-out ever.  We were especially impressed with the exhibits and the folks from various departments and colleges demonstrating and talking to visitors.  Do pass that along to the University Homecoming committee to continue the practice next year.

I look forward to continued connection to the English Dept. and to my past. -Babs G.

Lots of fun, and some great costumes. -Gregory C.

Thank you so much for inviting me to your staff party yesterday.  I enjoyed myself immensely.  I also met some new and nice people.  You rock in English:-. -Miranda

Also, the reception was fabulous. I haven't been to a school function for art that was so well-done and fancy. I felt really honored to be a part of it. Thanks. -Rose S.
