Graduate Plan of Study Candidates for all graduate degrees must file an Interactive Plan of Study (iPOS). The iPOS must be approved by the supervisory committee, the department chair, the graduation office, and the dean of the Graduate College. Students must submit their iPOS before they have completed 50% of their programs. Failure to do so may result in a hold on registration. The iPOS becomes the official record of your program plans and is a listing of what you have already taken, are presently taking, and will take to complete your requirements. It should be completed in consultation with your committee chair/advisor. Only one advisor (your chair) is required in order to submit the iPOS. Once an iPOS has been approved by the Graduate College, the student may then submit a Committee Change Request to add or change co-chairs and members. Students also have the option of selecting their entire committee at once, which will eliminate the need to add committee members later. Committee Change Requests, Petitions, Course Change Requests and Masters in Passing Applications are submitted electronically through ASU Interactive. Ph.D. students must have a committee formed before or at the time of the portfolio submission. Master's students will not be permitted to register for thesis credits until they have an approved iPOS on file. To Access the Plan of Study log into ASU Interactive • Click view/update Academic Records • Select file Graduate Plan of Study (iPOS) • Select your degree program If your degree program has different requirements (i.e., applied project, foreign language exam, thesis, written exam, etc.) you will select the appropriate requirements on the second page. Foreign Language Requirement: All graduate programs in English have a language requirement. If you are a non-native speaker of English, choose the option to WAIVE rather than choosing a language. Otherwise, choose the language that was agreed upon by you and your committee chair. If you are a native speaker of English and have discussed with your chair another way to meet the requirement (i.e., fluency, coursework, Old English, etc.) you also must choose WAIVE at this point. Next, select courses that you have already completed at ASU by clicking select courses from my transcript. You can select individual courses, or select all of them.
You can then click select future courses to add upcoming courses to your iPOS. Always Save and Continue. You will now be asked to list any Transfer Courses you would like to include on your iPOS. Note: Graduate Admissions MUST have official transcripts from transfer courses.
Next Select your Committee Chair After typing in the name, click Search At this time, you can also select your other committee members. Or you can do it later after the iPOS is approved. When you have completed this step, you have filled out the Interactive Plan of Study. It will now edit all your data to ensure you have fulfilled the requirements of the degree program.
If your Plan of Study is not ready to submit, click on the red bar and complete the necessary petitions to complete your Interactive Plan of Study.
NOTE: In order for the English Department to approve your iPOS you must follow these instructions: 1. Print out your approval page and course list and take to your committee chair for review. 2. Obtain your chair’s signature on the approval page. This indicates that your chair approves your courses and agrees to serve as chair. If you are adding your entire committee, get your other committee members’ signatures at this time. 3.Return the signed approval page and course list to Sheila Luna (LL 543B) for Department approval. Once you submit the iPOS, you cannot make changes. You can print the Approval Page and the Course List after you submit. If you experience technical difficulty with submission, contact ipos-q@asu.edu. For other questions, contact Sheila Luna at Sheila@asu.edu. Students must have an approved iPOS on file before registering to take the foreign language exam. Language exam results must be posted before the student can schedule a defense. Students will not be allowed to graduate in the same semester that they submit an iPOS.
